Introduction to Education

How to Use This Text

This book is written as a broad introductory guide for students beginning the study of education. It is designed to be read chapter by chapter, but the topics are also interconnected. Historical, philosophical, sociological, psychological, and policy questions all overlap in real educational practice.

Each chapter begins with learning objectives and then develops the core content through explanations, examples, a concept table, and a diagram. The ‘Case in Focus’ box is included to help students connect theory to everyday educational situations. The review questions at the end of each chapter can be used for self-study, class discussion, tutorial work, or assignment preparation.

Students should read actively. Pause to define key terms in your own words, compare theories rather than memorizing them in isolation, and connect concepts to schools, communities, and learning experiences you know. At the end of the book you will find a glossary, a set of official further-reading links, and a 30-question multiple-choice quiz with the correct answers identified.
