Preface
Airports are complex public-facing operating systems. They must deliver safe aircraft movement, reliable passenger and baggage processes, secure facilities, emergency readiness, commercial performance and responsible relationships with communities. These goals are connected. A weak decision in one area can quickly affect the entire airport.
This book develops a practical management perspective. It explains how airport operator’s coordinate airfield infrastructure, terminal processes, ground handlers, airlines, regulators, contractors and customers. Diagrams, tables, scenarios and management tools are used throughout so that concepts can be applied to real operations.
Regulatory and technical requirements change. The references at the end of the book identify major official sources, including Transport Canada material, ICAO Annex 14 and FAA airport advisory circulars. Current official documents must always be checked before operational use.
